Harvest-Westminster Fall Classic 2025 Results

August 30, 2025

It was exciting to finally see our team take to the course today. The weather was nice for August, but still much warmer than the HCA meet last season (which was also a week later in the season), so don't try to compare times to last year. Instead, compare your times to your end-of-summer time trial (though remember this meet was a 5K) because just about everyone ran faster than they did at the time trial.

Madi and Rose Medal for Lisle in the JV Girls Race at the Harvest-Westminster Fall ClassicGirls Race - JV Results, Varsity Results

The JV and varsity races were combined this year because of a smaller number of runners so the JV runners got to run alongside varsity even though they were scored separately. Madi Madsen started this race like she was shot out of a cannon. Madi ran a scorching 6:53 (which was faster than most of the boys' first miles as well), but then realized she still had two miles to go. Madi still hung on over the last two miles to finish her first-ever cross country 5K in a time of 23:54 and she finished first overall for the JV race. Dani Erickson, our steady junior with State experience, ran a fast first mile not too far behind Madi, and then a steady final two miles at 7:45 and 7:40 pace to finish first for the team with a 5K time of 23:06. Jennifer Duban ran with Dani for the first mile, but fell behind for the second two miles to finish the 5K in 24:16. However, her three-mile time of 23:38 was faster than her end-of-summer time trial of 23:45 and it was in worse weather conditions. Molly Martin started with a strong 7:58 first mile and then settled in to run a 9:03 second mile and 9:19 for the final mile and a 5K time of 27:02. Rose Helderle ran her first ever high school meet and finished with a 5K time of 28:32. She ran fairly consistent second and third miles with splits of 9:41 and 9:48. In addition, Rose finished 8th in the JV race, earning a medal. Violet King has a goal of finishing under 30 minutes for three miles and was on pace for the first mile at 9:53. Her second mile was much slower and she ended the race after two miles with a time of 22:30. This was MUCH faster than what Violet ran at our time trial, though, as she was almost at 30 minutes after just two miles during the time trial. It won't be too long before Violet breaks the 30 minute barrier.

Boys Race - JV Results, Varsity Results (Team)

On the boys side, Simon Klein returned from being sick to lead the team. He ran a team-leading 6:03 in the first mile, but slowed to 6:45 and 6:58 in the final two miles to finish with a 5K time of 20:20. Liam Newton finished second for the team and had by far the most even splits. Liam started in 6:58, ran the second mile in 7:09, and finished in 7:04. His 5K time of 21:44 was faster than his time last year even though the conditions last year were much better. Aiden Slehofer was the only other member of the team who ran faster than last year and held on to finish in 22:15. Jimmy Mullen, who never ran this meet because the team only started competing in it last year, was one of only three boys (along with Cayden and Liam) to run a negative split from the second mile to the third mile. Jimmy ran a 7:06 first mile, slowed to 7:42 in the second mile, but ran a great third mile in 7:32 to finish with a time of 22:50. Freshman Cayden Denhart ran his first-ever cross country meet and ran great splits of 7:20, 7:43, and 7:37. He finished with a 5K time of 23:20 after only running cross country for three weeks. Blake Madsen absolutely crushed his time trial time from the end of the summer. His 24:13 5K time today was over four minutes faster than his 28:52 time trial time from the summer. What a huge jump in just a few weeks! Lincoln Calfo ran a solid 6:56 to start the race, but fell off the last two miles to finish in 24:17. Lincoln will have a great season. He can shake this one off and make sure he wears his spikes to the next meet. Liam Marquez ran his first high school cross country race and after joining the team just a few weeks ago, finished two miles in 21:54. Liam, like Violet, is focused on breaking the 30-minute barrier for three miles and he'll be there by the end of the season.

Lion of the Meet

There were a few candidates for Lion of the Meet. Dani showed strong leadership with her solid race to lead the girls team. Madi ran out of her mind to win the JV race. Aiden was one of only two runners to run faster than he did at last year's meet. In his first race, Cayden showed his potential by sticking with many varsity runners. Jimmy, after a year off of cross country, was the team's fourth runner and one of only a handful of runners to negative split the last two miles. However, the Lion of the Meet Award has to go to Liam Newton. His 21:44 5K was faster than last year’s time of 22:17, despite tougher conditions. Liam's splits of 6:58, 7:01, and 7:04 were fantastic for the first meet of the year when many runners went out way too fast. Liam gets to hang on to our team mascot Bonito (created by Coach Jakalski's mother) until our next meet. Congrats, Liam!
