Moving On to Sectional Weekend!
October 25, 2025
For the second year in a row, the Lisle Lions girls cross country team will be moving on to Sectional weekend and the boys team will be moving on for the third year in a row. The girls finished in third place with 88 points behind Harvest Christian Academy's 60 points and Timothy Christian's 64 points. The girls finished exactly where they were ranked and look strong going into the Sectional. The boys finished in 5th place with 124 points behind Harvest Christian Academy's 25 points, Johnsburg's 54 points, Marian's 96 points, and Richmond-Burton's 108 points. The boys actually finished ahead of their rank as their were ranked 6th in the Regional.
Girls Race - Results (Team Results)
The girls were aggressive going into this race knowing there was little chance they wouldn't advance to the Sectional. Junior Dani Erickson ran one of her best races of the season in a season of great races. Dani finished in 8th place and ran a 5K P.R. of 20:45. This time was a minute and a half faster than her time at Mane Event three weeks ago and over 20 seconds faster than her lifetime 5K P.R. Freshman Madi Madsen decided she only needed one shoe to run today as she ended up running most of the race with just one shoe. Regardless, Madi ran a great race and finished exactly where she was shooting for with a 12th-place finish in 21:37. Like Dani, Madi ran a minute and a half faster than her Mane Event time as well as about the same amount faster than the 5K workout we had on Wednesday on the same course. Sophomore Jen Duban had one of her best races of the season with her 15th-place finish. Jen ran with Madi for most of the race and her time of 21:49 was a 5K P.R. and nearly two minutes faster than her Mane Event time. Jen and Madi running together are going to be a big key for us moving on to State. We celebrated senior Anya Kutkoski before the meet and she came out and had a great race. Anya was only 25 seconds away from a lifetime 5K P.R. with her 26th-place finish. Our fifth runner was our steady junior Molly Martin. Molly ran a solid time of 25:31 and finished in 45th place. Molly ran nearly two minutes faster than her Mane Event time while not feeling 100%. An effort like this from Molly if she is 100% will surely be enough to push us to the State meet. Finally, sophomore Rose Helderle (56th place, 27:17) not only set a 5K P.R. of nearly three minutes, but she also found Madi's shoe along the course and had a coach from another team bring it back to her. One more race like this and the girls will be running down in Peoria.
Boys Race - Results (Team Results)
Senior Simon Klein led the team once again and looked much stronger as he finished this race in 16th place with a time of 18:59. This was 30 second faster than Simon's Mane Event time this year and less than 30 seconds off a 5K P.R. Sophomore Liam Newton had another steady race and a week after setting a big 3-mile P.R., Liam was only one second off from a 5K P.R. Liam finished in 28th place with a time of 20:37. Liam has been one of the most consistent runners on the team this season and he still has two more years to improve. Freshman Cayden Denhart and junior Aiden Slehofer ran together for much of the race. Cayden pulled away in the final mile to finish in 32nd place with a time of 21:05, which was a minute and a half faster than his Mane Event time. Aiden ended up finished not far behind in 35th place with a time of 21:35. Junior Jimmy Mullen started the race running not far ahead of fellow junior Lincoln Calfo and freshman Blake Madsen, but Jimmy started pulling away after the first mile and has a strong race to finish in 39th place with a 5K P.R. of 21:51. Blake and Lincoln were neck-and-neck at the two-mile mark, but Blake pulled ahead with a great final mile to finish in 22:16 in 44th place. Lincoln also had a great race and finished not far behind Blake in 49th place with a time of 22:31.
Lion of the Meet
Our team stepped up big time this week and ran some great times on a difficult course. Lincoln had one of his best races of the season running in a borrowed uniform. Blake and Cayden continue to make strides during their freshman year and both had much stronger finishes than they did at the Mane Event. Jimmy was the only non-freshman on the boys team to run a 5K P.R. Dani had another great race and ran a 5K P.R. as did Madi who did so with just one shoe. Rose had a huge 5K P.R. and if I had more time to analyze the results, she might have been my choice for Lion of the Meet. However, Jen Duban had a huge race for the team running splits of 6:39, 7:21, and 7:49 to finish with a huge 5K P.R. of 21:49. As I said earlier, Jen and Madi are a big key for this team and if they run like they did today this team is going places next week. Congrats, Jen!
